Nancy M. Schlichting

Nancy M. Schlichting is chief executive officer of Henry Ford Health System, a nationally recognized $4 billion health care organization with 23,000 employees. She is credited with leading the health system through a dramatic financial turnaround and for award-winning patient safety, customer service and diversity initiatives. Ms. Schlichting’s career in health care spans over 35 years in senior-level positions. She joined Henry Ford Health System in 1998 as senior vice president and chief administrative officer and became its executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1999. She assumed an additional role as president and chief executive officer of Henry Ford Hospital in 2001, and is credited for its financial turnaround. In June 2003, Ms. Schlichting was named president and CEO of Henry Ford Health System. She serves on several national and community boards and is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of the International Women’s Forum. She has won multiple awards for her work in health care, including being named last year to Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare, her eighth time. Ms.Schlichting received an A.B. in Public Policy Studies, Magna Cum Laude from Duke University and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. She has also received honorary doctoral degrees from Walsh College, Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University.
