A Passion for people

Native to Nashville, Stacie Malone says she has found her professional home at Ardent Health Services in the community in which she is dedicated to serving. After seven years as a public accountant, Stacie admits she was ready for a change in 2015. “I spoke with a recruiter who was excited and had great things to say about Ardent,” she says. “I was interested in health care. The people at Ardent were friendly. It seemed like a family. Many people have been here 10 to 20 years. That’s rare today, especially in health care.”

Joining the internal audit team, Stacie began the work of understanding Ardent’s footprint of health systems throughout the country, which has grown to 20 hospitals in six states. Responsible for ensuring controls are in place throughout the company to assess and mitigate risk, Stacie reviews financial reports, assists external auditors and evaluates processes for consistency. Getting into the details of hospital operations married her passion for accounting with a desire to make a difference for others. “It feels good to know that we, at the corporate office, impact patients,” she says. “For example, our work makes sure patients get refunds issued in a timely manner if needed. The core of our business is taking care of patients.”

Taking care of people is a part of who Stacie is, something she continues to foster at Ardent. “I’m in a place where I feel happy, learn and balance work and life,” she shares. “I volunteer once a week at Second Harvest Food Bank. I also signed up for a program called Love Helps that I heard about at work. I write letters to local students and read to kindergarteners over lunch.”

Stacie also volunteers at Ardent as a buddy to help new team members feel welcomed and supported. “I have buddies in HR, IT and materials management,” she explains. “I’m able to help them with the day to day questions they may have. It is always helpful to have that one person to go to when you have a question.”

It is the open culture Stacie says she appreciates about Ardent. “You can see the c-suite has good visibility with everyone in the organization,” she adds. “We receive updates on Ardent’s plans for growth and results from the markets. It shows a lot about who we are and what our goals are. Seeing that we are being strategic about our growth says a lot about where the company is going. I’m proud of Ardent’s reputation.”
